New this week at iTunes: an iOS app for Mapped In Israel, a website launched by merican immigrant whiz kid Ben Lang  in May 2012.

Mapped In Israel was developed to promote Israel as one of the leading high-tech centers worldwide, and to provide easy and free access to data about Israel’s high-tech ecosystem.

The site has become a popular tool for job search, industry research and funding. Lang, who is 20 years old, says Mapped In Israel gets 15,000 to 20,000 visits per month, about half from Israel and half from other countries, including many in the Far East.

Several Israeli economic news websites, including Calcalist and The Marker, have embedded the map as a service to readers. There is information on each startup and a link to its homepage. Mapped In Israel also allows the startups to post help-wanted ads.

“Three weeks ago, I got an email from three guys at Iodie Studio in Tel Aviv that they were building this app, and they sent me the link when it went live,” Lang tells ISRAEL21c from the military base where he is now serving in a technological unit.

“They wanted to make it available as a service to other Israeli high-tech companies, so they did it voluntarily as a way to give back to the Israeli high-tech ecosystem.

Iodie, a new iOS (Apple) application development studio, describes itself as a “bleeding-edge hipster code studio. We focus on hardware startups, and projects that can scale. Our philosophy is simplicity; we love the new and we believe that less is more.”

The mapped app lets users discover startups that are hiring; explore startups based in particular parts of Israel; locate co-working spaces, investors and accelerators; and search companies by name and contact them directly via email.
