The first of its kind, the seminar provides a platform for consultations on the many areas of potential collaboration between Israeli and African universities and hospitals.
The goal is to expand and enhance a partnership the Israel AIDS Consortium has with experts in Ethiopia to other countries in the region, and provide Israel’s medical advances and expertise as a resource for global public health concerns.
The ten African medical experts traveling to Israel are on the front lines of HIV/AIDS research and care in Botswana, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya. Dr. Mark Wainberg, former President of the International AIDS Society, and currently Director of McGill University AIDS Centre will also join the seminar.
In addition to the medical sessions, the group will be briefed on a wide range of complex issues facing Israel. Experts across Israel’s political and social spectrum will discuss strategic and regional issues as well as Israeli and Palestinian politics and society.
The program, co-sponsored by Project Interchange and the Israel Consortium on AIDS Medicine in Africa (ICAMiA), is offered in cooperation with MASHAV, Israel’s National Agency for International Development Cooperation and Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Africa Division.
