Israeli windsurfer sails to gold

Israel’s Lee Korzits sailed to gold at the Sailing World Championships in Perth, Australia over the weekend. This was the second time she won the crown – the first time she did it at age 19, in 2003.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and President Shimon Peres called Korzits to congratulate her on the win.

It was a tight race, but Korzits triumphed in the RS:X class over Poland’s Zofia Noceti-Klepacka (her training partner) and Spain’s Marina Alabau.

Korzits draped the Israeli flag around her shoulders when she came to shore and said she was ecstatic to win gold for her country.

“I’m so happy that I can stand behind my country and my flag and hear the national anthem today so far away from my home,” she said.
