As soon as news broke of the shopping mall collapse in the Ghanaian capital of Accra yesterday, a team of Home Front Command experts left Israel for the disaster area.
The IDF group consists of 18 medical personnel, engineers and communication experts who can assist local Ghanaian authorities with the rescue operation.
Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama published a public statement announcing the arrival of the Israeli mission. Officials said dozens of people are believed to be trapped under the rubble of the department store.
Later today, Magen David Adom will send another delegation of doctors, paramedics and emergency medical technicians to help set up a field hospital and assist Accra’s medical personnel.
Israel is known for its humanitarian efforts
around the globe and is often the first to answer the call for assistance in a disaster area.
