IsraAID is a non-profit umbrella group that gathers Israeli humanitarian and relief workers from 17 different organizations to lend medical aid, search and rescue help, and disaster relief at some of the world’s biggest disaster sites.
Four days after Japan’s earthquake and tsunami on March 11, 2011, IsraAID was on the ground helping to coordinate relief efforts. Food, water and educational materials were distributed, and educational centers were renovated.
Today, IsraAID is still helping those scarred by the events by providing mental and emotional rehabilitation.
Five delegations of Israeli doctors and post-trauma specialists have treated over 2,000 children and hundreds of professionals. The teams are training local teachers, social workers, nurses, doctors, local community leaders, and private sector representatives in how to cope and help others cope with PTSD – Post Trauma Stress Disorder. The goal is to create a professional self-sufficient network that can provide long-term support to the millions affected by the tsunami and still suffering from trauma due to radiation worries.
Over 1,000 Japanese and American leading business people, dignitaries, and community leaders will attend the ‘Luminary Award’ event.
