IsraAID sends aid to Kenya, South Sudan, Haiti

IsraAID has sent three different delegations to support its missions in Kenya (famine relief), South Sudan (supporting a rape victim shelter) and Haiti (medical, social and agriculture programs).

The new relief missions were in response to an international call for help.

Today (December 12) IsraAID is traveling to the remote north-western Turkana region of Kenya to continue to support international efforts in famine relief.
The team will distribute emergency food to hospitals and local communities. IsraAID will also distribute thousands of treated LLTN mosquito nets in order to help fight malaria.

An IsraAID team is also traveling to South Sudan today to continue its efforts to support, rehabilitate, and protect young girls who have been the subject of, or are at-risk of rape, violence, and sexual abuse. The organization originally sent a team to Juba in July 2011.

A third team is on its way to Haiti to support the work of the IsraAID team already on the ground. The organization has been involved since the first days after the 2010 earthquake shocked Haiti.

To date, the joint IsraAID and Tevel b’Tzedek project in Haiti has reached over 20,000 people through activities such as sexual education, health and hygiene awareness, language courses, computer classes, leadership training for youth, arts and sports.

Israel is not only at the forefront of worldwide efforts in providing disaster assistance when tragedies strike but organizations like IsraAid also stay on the ground long after news crews have moved on to the world’s next disaster area.
