Israel’s Better Place has set a new record for miles driven on electric power: a whopping 1172 miles over the course of 24 hours.

The Holden Commodore electric car, modified to use Better Place’s innovative quick battery change system to get a fresh battery during every 75.8 mile lap, smashed the 24 hour distance record of 994.14 miles set last month by Renault’s Zoe.

While it usually takes about five to 10 minutes to fill up a regular car with petrol, Better Place’s quick change refueling stations put drivers back on the road in one minute and 13 seconds.

Moreover, the world’s leading electric car services provider reported that the depleted batteries used in the Better Place electric power test still had about 20 percent charge after each 75.8 mile lap. A new record could be in the coming.
