Amit Ivry makes a praiseworthy splash at Olympics

The 22-year-old is the first Israeli woman to reach an Olympic swimming semifinal.

Israeli swimmer Amit Ivry performed wonderfully at her first Olympic Games and had blue-and-white fans on the edge of their seats during her 200-meter medley semifinals heat.

Though not expected to reach the podium, Ivry showed that she deserved to compete with the best in the world.

After securing a new Israeli record with a time of 2:13.29 minutes in the qualifying heats, Ivry gave another strong performance in the semifinals with a time of 2:13.31 minutes.

She was among the leaders in her heat for the first 150 meters of the semifinal race and ended in sixth place in her heat and 13th overall.

Her performance put a much needed smile on the faces of the Israeli swim team.

“Today I proved to the entire Israeli nation and to myself, of course, that I can be among the best in the world,” she said.
