Waze, MyCheck, uTest and the recently sold Intucell are four Israeli startups nominated in the Global Mobile Awards competition, set to take place at next week’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
The mobile navigation and traffic community app Waze
, which recently announced to have reached 36 million drivers in 2012, is nominated in the main category, Judges Choice – Best Overall Mobile App. Waze faces tough competition against the world’s most famous applications: Dropbox file hosting service, Flipboard technology news application, Sky Sports F1 software and Square electronic payment service.
To select the nominees for the 2013 awards, more than 160 independent analysts, journalists, academics and subject matter experts throughout the world participated in the judging process. The Mobile World Congress is the world’s largest and leading mobile industry event held annually in Barcelona.
is up for the Best NFC/ Mobile Money Product or Service prize. The application allows users to pay for services and goods directly from their mobile phone.
The blue-and-white application uTest
, which brings together companies and software testers all over the world, is nominated in the Best Enterprise Mobile Service category.“This award seeks to recognize innovators and market driving operators, vendors and app developers that deliver best in class products and solutions to the enterprise, from cloud services for accounting, sales, HR, logistics, communications, to outsourcing or point of sale applications,” reads the prize outline.
And the fourth Israeli-made app in the running for an award is mobile networking startup Intucell
, which was recently sold to Cisco for $475 million. It is nominated in the Best Mobile Infrastructure category for a special Self-Optimizing Network (SON) project it conducted with AT&T.
Winners will be announced on February 26.
The awards ceremony is only one part of the bigger Mobile World Congress. The four-day event (February 25-28) will feature 1,500 companies from 205 countries. Israel will be represented by more than 100 companies.
