Israelis proved once again that they’re snap happy when it comes to the country’s national heritage sites . Local photographers – amateur and professional alike – shot more than 7,000 photos for the 2013 Wiki Loves Monuments photography contest.
Pini Berman took first prize for his photo titled, “Jaffa at Night – View from the Sea” and pocketed the NIS 5,000 prize. Berman’s photo will now move on to the international competition.
Second prize (NIS 3,000) was awarded to Reuven Brenner for his beautiful shot of Saint Peter’s Church. Yehuda Asulin took third place (NIS 2,000) with his photograph of the Ethiopian Church in Jerusalem.
The 10 best photos, as selected by Wikimedia Israel judges, are on display on the bottom level of the Dizengoff Center shopping mall in Tel Aviv through the end of November.
Wiki Loves Monuments is an annual competition dedicated to collecting quality images of world heritage sites.
This year’s contest brought in over 370,000 photos from 52 participating countries.
