Would you believe, Jerusalem?

The freakishly cold and snowy weather may have shut down Jerusalem but it didn’t stop the city’s shutterbugs from stepping outside and snapping a few shots. Photographer Chaim Meiersdorf quips that this vista puts the Swiss to shame…

Yesterday, as the snow began blanketing the city, he took this picture en route to synagogue…

And then again today, with the early morning snowfall…

The sun came out for a few hours and so did Israel21c’s videographer Elahn Zetlin, who notes that even snow couldn’t stop the die-hard Friday morning cafe-goers on Emek Refaim street.

Photographer Marco Jona wandered the neighborhoods of Rehavia and the Jerusalem Theater…

The snow inspired a flow of creative juices…

And this wooden structure — one of the city’s many lovely eccentricities and usually seeming so out-of-place in the Mediterranean heat — today seemed perfectly at home.

As of this moment, snow continues to fall, many parts of the city are without power  hundreds of out-of-towners are stranded in temporary shelters, and there are many Jerusalemites who won’t make it home for Shabbath. May it be as peaceful and restful as possible and may this storm pass so we can get back to our usual crazy existence. Shabbat Shalom!
