To celebrate the Jewish New Year on Wednesday, we’ve chosen a seasonal photograph for this week’s Photo of the Week.

Honey is an essential part of every New Year celebration in Israel with people dipping apples into it to herald a sweet year ahead.

Every year in Israel some 1,600 tons of honey produced by about 100,000 beehives is consumed in the month of holidays that begin with Rosh Hashanah.

Aside from tasting good, honey also contains anti-inflammatory and antibiotic substances, as you can discover in our story on the Top 10 things you didn’t know about bees.

In this picture by Hamad Almakt of Flash90, a bee gathers pollen from a blooming Lupin at Kibbutz Gonen.

If you’ve got a photograph you’d like to feature on ISRAEL21c please send it in high resolution to us here. Every week we will choose the best one to feature on our pages.
