Israel's Medigus in $6m. mini-cam deal Bookmark and Share

Medigus has signed a $6.5 million, six-year contract to supply its disposable miniature CMOS camera for heart imaging to California-based cardiac medical devices manufacturer Voyage Medical, which will use the micro-camera in its cardiovascular endoscope.

In a global first, Medigus says that its camera can be inserted directly into the heart through the blood vessels, enabling Voyage Medical's proprietary endoscope to image heart tissue in real time and while performing procedures.

The micro-camera has a diameter of 0.05 inches, making it the world's smallest CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semi conductor) camera. It is cheap to produce and should eliminate the need for many costly and risky procedures.

The mini-camera is manufactured at the Medigus plant in southern Israel, in the Beersheba suburb of Omer.

The camera employs a CMOS sensor developed by TowerJazz, which is manufactured at the company's Fab2 in the north of Israel using Tower's 0.18-micron CMOS image sensor process.
